Providing Hope,
Rebuilding Confidence.

As a School Committee member, I have developed trust and respect through being thorough and professional.  My long and deep commitment to our school district, and to all who are served by it, characterizes my public service.  Through my efforts, I have shown that I believe in, and support the vital opportunity, and hope, that public education provides.

Public schools are challenged and sometimes doubted.  Improving and rebuilding confidence where needed in our schools demands a School Committee that works collaboratively with school administration, is aligned in purpose, sets a positive tone, and works with an expectation of accomplishment.

As our school district prepares to begin a process towards a new strategic plan, I look forward to being an active participant and leader as I did with the last plan.

As an incumbent candidate on the School Committee, I bring forth an informed and seasoned perspective, having served five terms on the School Committee. Also noteworthy is my publicly elected term as commissioner, and unanimous election as Chairman of the Newburyport Charter Commission.
When the vote for a Charter Commission was established in 2009, I wanted to do more than just audit and watch the process; I sought to be part of it. The Newburyport Charter Commission was elected in the 2009 municipal election, and within 45 days, we were organized and charged with framing a new Home Rule Charter. After 16 months of work, our final report was approved by the Attorney General’s Office.

At the 2011 municipal election, the newly framed charter passed by more than a 2:1 margin.  I have gained valuable skills, experience and knowledge of our local government, allowing an increased working understanding of School Committee collaboration with the executive and legislative branches of our city.
